30 Day Song Challenge, Day 7: A Song You Never Tire Of Hearing

Fetty Wap, Trap Queen

I know, I know, me and half the US never get tired of hearing this song. BUT THAT HOOK, THOUGH. It’s like the A part of the chorus is the hook, building tension to what is more or less a drop on “never letting go.” And then there’s the contrast with with the shorter, distinct phrases (e.g., “I can ride w my baby/I be in the kitchen cooking pies w my baby”) of the B part of the chorus. And then the rich, almost buttery bass that comes in with the B part of the chorus, that’s warm and delicious. And you should really read Sofiya Ballin’s piece on TQ over at For Harriet.

Runners Up: Die Krupps & Nitzer Ebb, “Machineries of Joy“; Jack U feat. 2 Chainz, “Febreze“; Calvin Harris feat. Florence Welch, “Sweet Nothing; KMFDM “Juke Joint Jezebel” Original and Metropolis Mix (by Giorgio Moroder).
